CAT Match Report

Malaysia moved into second place in Group B by defeating Bhutan by 45 runs at Gymkhana. Such a convincing victory had looked unlikely when Christina Baret was dismissed by the first ball of the match bowled by Anju Garang. Bhutan’s opening bowler followed up with two more wickets to reduce Malaysia to 20 for three.

But it was Nur Aishah and Zoe Landry who came to the rescue again. Their partnership against Kuwait was the basis for a total of 144 and here they helped Malaysia reach a more modest 88 for 5 in 25 overs, the excellent Anju Gurung finishing with three for seven.

Bhutan’s girls were always struggling to keep up with the run-rate but played with good technique before their last seven wickets fell for 11 runs. Dechen Wangmo hit the only boundary in a total of 43 which occupied 21.3 overs.

Malaysia’s opening bowlers Winifred Duraisingham and Zoe Landry proved too much for the Bhutan tail, but it was captain Nur Aishah who was player of the match for her innings of 21 and two wickets for seven. Malaysia now look favourites to join Nepal in the semi-finals.
