CAT Match Report

Oman Undefeated

With nothing to lose Myanmar won the toss and chose to bat first. Hoping to make an impression against one of the tournaments’ stronger sides Oman Myanmar got off to a shaky start losing 5 wickets within the first four overs with only 8 runs posted on the board. Min Hein Khant and Kyaw Min Aung put an end to domino like downfall of Myanmar’s batting order, brining some stability and taking the total to 36 before K.M. Aung was caught behind of the bowling of Adwan Yousaf. Ismail and M.H Khant put on a solid partnership putting on an additional 20 runs (including extras). Myanmar’s lower order in general showed a lot of resilience taking the total to 88 and playing the full quota of 40. Myanmar surprised quite a few people by batting out the full 40 overs against one of the favorites to go all the way.

With a target of 89 to win, Oman came out with all guns blazing. In the process they lost Kunal Pandya on the fourth ball of the second over with 19 runs already posted on the board. Suneet Fernandes and Gayrav Honavar, aided by some wayward bowling by Myanmar blowers who gave away 25 extras, had the game wrapped up before the 12th over. Myanmar were clear outclassed in this encounter however  their middle and lower order showed a lot of resilience but it also highlighted the fact that there is still a lot of work to be done in the bowling department. Mayanmar were bowling an average of 8 ball overs and if they are to reach the next level in terms of cricket they need to seriously address this issue.

Suneet Fernandes was awarded the man of the match award for his brilliant performance. He took 1 wicket in his 5 overs at an economy rate of 3 and smashed 36 runs of 33 balls. Oman will now square of against China in the second semi final to be played at Polo in Bangkok on the 22nd of November for a place in the final.
