Bangkok Junior Cricket hosted an under-13 cricket tournament on the 13th and 14th March, which took place at the AIT ground competing against the visiting Hong Kong under-13 team.
This presented a great opportunity for Bangkok under 13 boys to show their cricket skills. The hard work that is put in at every Sunday’s junior league practice hours was there for everyone to see during both matches. The first opportunity to play a competitive cricket tournament was a good experience for all the players.
Every player gave their best to the game and some of them excelled with their performance. Mukesh Saraff who opened the batting in both matches was consistently good and gave a solid start to the innings showing sound technique and some good scoring shots around the field, scoring 32 in the first match and 33 in the second one. Mukesh also bowled and fielded well in both the games, his best score being 6 over 16 runs with one wicket taken in the second match on the 14th. In the second day’s game, Mukesh was batting very well and looked well settled and was building a healthy second wicket partnership with Jainam Sanghavi on the other end. At that stage Mukesh edged an outside off stump delivery to the wicketkeeper and walked without waiting for the umpire’s decision. Later, umpire Mr. George told us all that he wouldn’t have given him out because it was very tough decision. Mukesh displayed the right sportsman spirit, for what we all love the game of cricket for. This most noteworthy action has surely made us all proud. He demonstrated all signs of a good cricketer in the making. Well played, Mukesh. He was applauded by everyone present at the ground and rightly so.
Jainam batted well to score 75 off 77 balls on the second day, the highest number of runs for Bangkok team in the second match and won the man of the match award. Jainam played some innovative shots behind the wicket and towards the on side.
Kushal Shah showed good resilience as captain of the side and lead the team well with good batting and bowling.
Man of the series went to visiting team Alex for his score of 91 runs from 77 balls in the first game and 35 off 22 balls in the second game Although both the game results were not in favor of Bangkok team, the game of cricket was surely the winner.
Every player deserves the praise for their enthusiasm and the commitment on the field and the good behavior off the field. Keep up the good work and enjoy the game.
This report will not be complete without offering a round of applause and a big thank you to all the parents for being present at the ground during the games to show your support for the team and also for the fullest co-operation and support to the Thailand junior cricket games on Sundays at BPS cricket ground. To coach Zia and Khuram for being there and helping out on the day.
