CRICKET’S FIRST GOLD MEDAL FOR PAKISTAN

Pakistan took the gold medal in the first ever women’s cricket tournament to be held as part of the Asian Games, when they defeated Bangladesh who took silver by 10 wickets. Japan had earlier won the bronze medal by beating China by seven wickets.

The most experienced team eventually came out on top in the women’s cricket competition in Guangzhou, Pakistan clearly benefiting from playing recently in an ICC women’s tournament in South Africa.

THAILAND KEEP THEIR MEDAL HOPES ALIVE

Thailand kept their hopes of a medal in the women’s cricket competition at the Asian Games in Ghuangzhou alive with a hardfought victory by 31 runs over Malaysia at the Guanggong International Stadium.

Both countries had lost their opening matches in the competition, but the winner of today’s match would face China for a place in the semi-finals, so their was much to play for and the match was the most exciting of the tournament so far with the result in doubt until the last stages.Read More ...

Thailand's Women's Cricket Team Looking For Medals

Thailand’s women’s cricket team have arrived in Guangzhou in China to take part in the Asian Games where cricket is one of 33 sports being played and hopes are high that the girls have a real chance of winning a medal for Thailand.

The girls have been practising hard over the last few months, and their preparations have benefited greatly from a tour to Bangalore in India earlier in the year and recent matches against Thailand’s under-16 and under-19 boys teams.

Nepal retained  their title by beating Bhutan

The second ACC U-19 Women’s Championship in Singapore came to an end as Nepal retained  their title by beating Bhutan by five wickets in the final

Both sides had been unbeaten through the tournament so a close contest was expected in the final. No fewer than five of the Nepal team had played in 2008 final in Chiang Mai when they beat Malaysia by seven wickets, and most of the Bhutan U-19 team had already played for their country at adult level.
